How to Properly Choose a Sea Container: Types and Characteristics

They differ in configuration, size, and are designed to solve specific tasks. Knowledge of the main types and their characteristics will be the key for the customer to correctly choose the optimal container for transporting specific cargo.
Types of Sea Containers Considering the Tasks to be Solved
Depending on the purpose, cargo delivery from China is carried out using sea containers of several categories: multipurpose (universal) closed type, open-top, special.
Multipurpose
Metal structures for universal use of series 1 are used for transporting full (general) and consolidated cargo batches. They are rectangular boxes with a floor, walls, roof, and door leaves.
The base of the layout is a frame made of steel profiles – corner posts of increased strength, to which trusses, longitudinal and transverse beams are welded. The sturdy base is designed for significant loads during loading and unloading, including with heavy cargo inside. Open Top models are distinguished by the absence of a rigid roof. Instead, there may be a tarpaulin or a sliding plastic cover. The cargo space is limited to a volume of 32 m3 with a maximum cargo weight of 21.6 tons.

Distinguished by larger dimensions, including cargo space. Length 12192 mm with a height of 2591 mm and width of 2438 mm. Maximum load up to 26.6 tons with a full mass of 30.5 tons. The volume of space for loading is 66 m3.
High Capacity 40 feet (High Cube)
Universal high-capacity containers are manufactured with a length of 12192 mm, a height of 2895 mm, and a width of 2438 mm. The increase in height provides a cargo space volume of 75.5 m3. Due to the large cargo capacity, the cost of delivery from China in such containers is significantly lower compared to the cost of transportation in 20- or 40-foot standard containers.
